Viveka Murasu - Trumpet of Vivekananda

You are aware that Sri Ramakrishna Math and Mission Centers are engaged in various charitable activities in the field of education, medical, relief and publication. To the present day strife-torn society, the life and Teachings of Sri Ramarkrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are like a beacon light.

'Spread ideas - go from village to village, from door to door - then only there will be real work', wrote Swami Vivekananda in one of his letters a century ago. Time has neither weakened nor veiled the powerful echo of his words. Time has, in fact, added vigor and momentum to the need to 'spread ideas.' Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai launched a novel programme on July 15th, 2004 the sacred Jayanti (birthday celebrations) of Srimat Swami Ramakrishnananda, the founder of Chennai Math, to broadcast the life-giving message of Swami Vivekananda to the masses.

'Viveka Murasu' is a Village Awareness Programme conceived by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, Chennai, to create an awareness among the villagers of their innate abilities. The programme aims to:

1. Create self-employment opportunities among the villagers through vocational training programmes.

2. Spread the life giving and character building message of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda through, film shows, literature and exhibitions.

3. A team of five members of the math are going around villages of Tamil Nadu in a well equipped mobile van for implementing the above village awareness programmes with the cooperation of the local youth and elders.
