Preaching

Preaching is one of the major activities of the Math. Regular classes are held inside and also at various places outside the Math. The Math's preaching work is carried out in three ways.

1. Personal Interviews:

Personal Interviews with the President and other senior swamis on spiritual matters. (9.30 -11.30 am on all days).

2. Discourses:

i.On Saturdays (5.30 - 6.30 pm) -- Tamil
ii.On Sundays (5.30 - 6.30 pm) -- English
iii.On festival days (5.30 - 6.30pm) -- English

3. Spiritual Retreats :

Every Sunday evening, starting from 5.30 p.m., is like a mini-retreat at the the math. The programmes include one hour talk on the Upanishads/Gita followed by Arati and Bhajans for one and a half hour. There is a huge gathering of devotees on Sunday evenings for the discourse, arati and bhajans.

4. Yoga Course :

This 8 week - course provides basic training in Yogasanas, Suryanamasakar etc. Apart from these, the swamis conduct classes on the higher aspects of Yoga.

5. Meditation Class :

These are conducted by the monks of the Math on every Wednesday at 07.00 p.m. The programme includes Chanting, Guided Meditation and Bhajans on devotional singing.

6. Vivekananda Youth Forum :

This Forum is for men between the age of 15 and 22 who are interested in spiritual life and service to humanity. The youths are trained in the following: Concentration: A Way to Fulfillment, The Cultural Heritage of Our Nation, Vedanta and the Way of Modern Life, Development of Integrated Personality, Dignity of Labour, Secret of Complementary Living and Applied Spirituality: Organizing Life in the Mould of Sri Ramakrishna-Swami Vivekananda. The members meet every Sunday from 4.00 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

7. Bala Mandir :

Moral and Cultural values take deep roots in young minds. This programme is designed to instill in our children (age group of 8 to 15) the eternal values of our cultural and spiritual heritage and to bring out their latent talents through story-telling, bhajans, yogic exercises, elocution, painting, and music. Under the guidance of a monk, the children meet on Sundays in the morning (9.00am - 12.30pm) in the Math's Vivekananda Hall.

8. Winter Camp for Children :

This is a personality development camp for children of age group 8-15. Usually this is conducted during Christmas holidays. In this camp children are taught Vedic Chanting, Bhajans, Guided Meditation, Moral lessons based on the lives and teachings of saints and sages of our holy land.
