Sri Ramakrishna Math is a place of pilgrimage, situated at Mylapore in Chennai.
Commissioned by Swami Vivekananda, this Math was started by Swami Ramakrishnananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna.
The Math campus is filled with palpable holiness. Anyone who sits in the temple, even if it is for a few minutes, feels the supreme calmness descend on him.
With its lush green surroundings, the Math is a lovely spot for contemplation and meditation.

Spiritual
|
The Universal Temple is the hub of all activities. All, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, race, and nationality, are welcome here. They can either participate in the worship, bhajan, arati etc or engage themselves in silent prayer or meditation.

Publication
|
The publication department was started by Swami Ramakrishnananda. Today the Math has a well developed publication section with its own offset press and computers. Books on Ramakrishna - Vivekananda - Vedanta - Meditation - Yoga and Self-Improvement literature in Sanskrit, English, Tamil; magazines The Vedanta Kesari (in English), Sri Ramakrishna Vijayam (in Tamil) are published.

Medical
|
The Dispensary, which has been functioning for the last 76 years, caters to 900 persons on an average everyday. General medicine, Eye, ENT, Paediatric, XRAY, Laboratory, Dental, Homeopathy, Gynecology, Skin, Ortho, ultrosonic, ECG, Gastroenterology departments serve the outpatients.

Library
|
The Math complex houses a well maintained Multi-lingual library. There are thousands of books on Religion, Philosophy, Literature and Arts. There is a separate section for Children as well.
At the Book Bank, academic books are rented to students of higher studies like engineering, who cannot afford to purchase books of their own.

Educational
|
A Primary School and a Higher secondary school for Girls are run at Basin Bridge, an economically backward area in Chennai. At Ramakrishnapuram, a backward area in Mylapore, the Math continues its service here by having a shrine-hall where coaching classes are held for poor school children since 1928.

Rural Development
|

Vivekanandar Illam
|
Vivekananda Illam is about 4 kms from Mylapore Math, is located at the Kamaraj Salai (on the Marina Beach Road). This houses a Pictorial Exhibition on Indian culture from the Vedic Period to the advent of Sri Ramakrishna and a Photo Gallery on the life Swami Vivekananda. The room in which Swamiji stayed is maintained as a meditation room.

Viveka Murasu
|
'Viveka Murasu' is a Village Awareness Programme conceived by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, Chennai, to create an awareness among the villagers of their innate abilities. The programme aims to create self-confidence and social unity to the village youth for self-development through its Personality Development oriented programmes.
